Phuket is preparing to organize the "No Alcohol Songkran" festival to make it safe and boost the economy.

Phuket – March 10, 2026.
At the Phuket Provincial Hall, the Governor of Phuket, Mr. Nirats Phongsitthavon, held a meeting with representatives from the Tourism and Sports Office, the Cultural Office, and the private sector. The meeting discussed the overall concept for organizing the "No Alcohol Songkran – Phuket 2026" festival. The main goal of the alcohol-free Songkran in Phuket is safe fun within the framework of Thai traditions and the prevention of accidents during the holiday.
This year, the festival will take place on April 13 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Dibuk Road in the historic center of Phuket Town. The festival's motto is "Have fun the Thai way – everyone returns home safely." The program includes: bathing Buddha statues, paying respect to elders by pouring water over their hands, and traditional water splashing. The holiday program also features musical performances by famous artists, aimed at adding vibrancy and attracting tourists.
The "No Alcohol Songkran in Phuket" festival was first held in 2012 at the Limelight Phuket shopping center and was later moved to Dibuk Road in the city's historic center, where it continues to be held to this day. This year marks the 12th time the festival has been held. It enjoys immense popularity among both locals and tourists. For example, in 2025, more than 51,000 people participated, of which over 12,000 were foreign tourists.
The key feature of the festival is its alcohol-free status. This allows people of all ages and genders to participate equally and also helps reduce the risk of accidents during the celebration. Furthermore, "No Alcohol Songkran" serves as an important platform for promoting Thai culture in a contemporary format and stimulates Phuket's economy.
In the past, the project has also received national recognition – the Stop Drink Award and awards from the Ministry of Public Health. The Tourism Authority of Thailand recommends the festival as one of the most attractive Songkran festivals in Thailand. The festival is also included in the list of venues for events under the Maha Songkran World Water Festival.
The Governor of Phuket emphasized the importance of national recognition for this festival format. He noted that "Songkran is a festival for the masses," and with good organization, it can attract a huge number of people.
An official press conference dedicated to the "No Alcohol Songkran – Phuket 2026" festival will be held on March 17.
